Our Honest Take on Duct Cleaning

We do not recommend duct cleaning for most South Florida homes. Here’s why:

  • Most homes have flex duct or fiberglass duct board, which can be damaged by brushes or vacuum tools.

  • Cleaning these types can cause more harm than good, potentially tearing the inner lining or releasing particles into the air.

Instead, we offer better ways to improve your indoor air quality:

  • Sealing duct connections and air leaks

  • Improving air handler performance and runtime

🚫 Why We Don’t Recommend Duct Cleaning for Most Homes in Florida

At POLAIR, we put long-term system health and customer safety first. That’s why we generally do not recommend duct cleaning for homes with flexible ducts or fiberglass duct board, which are extremely common in Florida.

❌ The Problem with Cleaning Flex Duct and Duct Board:

  • Delicate inner lining (like plastic wrap) in flex ducts can be damaged by brushes, even soft ones.

  • Duct board is made of fiberglass and can release particles or be degraded during cleaning.

  • Once damaged, these materials cannot be repaired — only replaced, often at significant cost.

In our experience, brushing or scraping these ducts can create more harm than help, possibly releasing more debris into the air system and lowering air quality.

✅ What We Do Recommend for Better Indoor Air Quality

Instead of duct cleaning, we focus on proven, safer ways to reduce dust and improve air quality:

  • Change filters regularly – every 60–90 days for standard filters, or per schedule for upgraded media filters.

  • Upgrade to higher MERV filters—when the system design allows, we recommend MERV 8–11 for better filtration.

  • Seal air leaks. Leaky ducts pull in attic air, dust, and insulation. Sealing helps protect both air quality and efficiency.

  • Add IAQ solutions, such as UV lights, media cabinets, and air purifiers that continuously clean the air, such as our PUFI Bundle.

 

🛠 When Duct Cleaning Might Be Appropriate

We may recommend duct cleaning if your home has rigid sheet metal ducts — and only if:

  • You’ve had recent remodeling, fire, or mold issues

  • You experience serious airflow blockages or visible debris

  • It’s done professionally with negative air machines and HEPA vacuums — not brushes in flex duct
